![]() Again, to be fair on the hotel, I asked at reception and they sent some different pillows to my room. Way too firm (woke up with a terrible neck ache). Too small for your head if you move around in your sleep. ![]() They’re not pillows they’re scatter cushions with pillow cases on. The beds themselves are quite comfortable, but it’s the pillows. ![]() Why do hotels do this!? To be fair to the hotel, I mentioned this on check out and they are looking to address this. There are very few plug sockets between the beds, and again, not overly accessible. There’s a big desk to work on, paper, pens etc… and not a single plug socket (except the ones hidden on the base of the lamp that can’t fit a non US adapter) unless you crawl under the desk, move stuff around and unplug the fridge. I’ve broken down the rest of the review into what I found to be good, really bad, and just a bit bad… The good: - Rooms are quite big - Nice small touches (Godiva chocolates, L’Occitane en Provence toiletries etc…) - Fairly well equipped (iron, ironing board, safe etc… in room) - Large TV with (my guess) around 1000 stations (though strangely no news stations such as CNN, and even with 1000 channels, there’s only ever adverts on in the US!) - When the wifi works, it seems pretty fast for a hotel - The breakfast is included and is OK quality - The staff are friendly and helpful The really bad: - Noise! You can hear the trains (which insist on using their horns the whole time, starting at 5am), you can hear the main road (including police sirens before 5am), neighbouring rooms, car park etc… Also, you can hear the constant running water of the Zen garden which does little to put you in a zen like state! Finally, the in-room fridge had to be unplugged as by 1am I couldn’t take any more of it. It’s about a 20 minute walk from restaurants and some shops and about 45-60 minutes from San Francisco Airport by road. The motel is situated on a busy road, which can be quite noisy. On a factual basis, I had a double queen room, which had two large beds, a large desk, a (noisy) fridge, a coffee machine, shower/bath room, wifi, TV, lots of parking (it’s a motel!) and breakfast was included. The motel is fine, but nothing more – however it tries to be more and charges as if it were more. I did not feel a Zen like state of enlightenment at any point during my stay. The maids, however, could use a lesson or two on proper room service.I stayed at the Zen Garden on a recent business trip. The hotel itself is wonderful, the amenities are great, the morning breakfast and evening snacks are a great thing to offer, and the front desk staff was very accommodating and welcoming. We did not demand that sheets and towels be washed daily. We always left the towels that we did use hanging, as requested on a welcome card, to help conserve water. That request was completely ignored and we were never left one. We were short one towel and for TWO DAYS IN A ROW, I left a note, asking them to please leave an extra towel. In the following days, we put the "do not disturb" sign out while we were at breakfast so that we could come back to the room to get ready before heading out for the day. We decided to take a walk until they were finished. They acted as if we were in their way and would not let us get ready to leave. They had the radio on full blast to some Spanish speaking only station. We went to breakfast and upon returning to the room to pack up and get ready to be off for the day, found the maids in the room. If I had anything negative to say, it would be about the maids. ![]() I like the central location, with restaurants and other businesses nearby. There is something for everyone! It's nice that there are complementary evening snacks and drinks offered as well. The room was very clean, and the front desk staff is very courteous and always helpful! The daily breakfast is very tasty, and has a great variety, no matter your tastes or preferences. I recently stayed here for the second time.
